Don’t Forget to Reward Yourself

This week we will continue to look at how to manage multiple tasks with the same deadline. We have looked briefly at timing and rotating tasks, moving between tasks, and the Butt in the Chair method.

It is easy to forget to re-enforce the positive completion of a myriad of tasks, but it is critical to do so. Here are some suggestions to consider when setting up a reward system:
  • Make the reward equivalent to the task. In other words, completing a paragraph or making a phone call deserves a small reward, completing a book deserves a major reward.
  • Don’t underestimate the importance of rewards. No matter how old we get, it still feels good to be rewarded or acknowledged.
  • If you fail to acknowledge what you have completed, you are more likely to encounter resistance the next time you attempt a similar task.
  • What pleases someone else may not feel like a reward to you. Create rewards that work for you!
