Goal Setting & Goal Getting

This month we will be looking at some new research on goal setting and goal getting.  For this week, consider a couple of goals you have been struggling with and which seem especially difficult to accomplish. Here are some examples:
  • Lose weight
  • Become more fit
  • Clean up my office, garage, etc.
Next think about what might be sabotaging these goals. Consider:
  • What you believe about the goals (“It’s too hard to accomplish,” or “I don’t have the time”)
  • The goal is not specific enough (“I would like to earn more money,” I would like more vacation time”)
  • The timing of the goals (“It’s too late, now,” “This wouldn’t be a good time to start”)
  • You have lost energy or focus on the goal (“I’m not sure I really want it,” “I don’t know what I really want”)
  • It seems as though you have no will power to change (“I’m just a wimp,” I get so far and then I lose it…”)

As one dubbed "The Dark Prince of Procrastination", I can say without fear of contradiction that I have used every excuse known to mankind for not finishing (or starting) any given project.

When push becomes shove, I simply remind myself of the consequences of not "getting er done". What pain can be eliminated by taking action, and what pleasure will be derived from completing a task/project :-).

My pleasure being here!
