How Strong is Your Commitment?

In our discussion of goals this month, it is important to look at commitment. Without it, nothing will get accomplished, no matter how wonderful the goal may be.  Look over the goals you have been working on and carefully consider these points if you want to increase your commitment:
  • Is the goal important to you?

  • Have you publicly committed to others to achieve your goal?

  • Do you have a strong need to achieve?

  • Do you believe you have personal control as you strive to reach your goal?

  • Were you the one setting the goal?

  • Have you established rewards and incentives or if the goal is not achieved, negative consequences?

  • Does what you will achieve if you accomplish the goal seem fair to you?
Consider these points and share your thoughts below.

When setting long or short-term goals it sometimes helps to consider the pleasure/pain consequences of achieving or not achieving most goals.

Of course, given some thought, most normal people will naturally be motivated by the pleasure associated with accomplishment, as opposed to the pain that may result from not meeting goals.

Simple? Yes. Works? Yes.

All the best,

Jon
