Finding Quiet in the Clamor

No sooner did I write last week’s Bucket Zine on appreciating quiet, when I was awakened early one morning to what sounded like giant rats on my roof (with very large drills).  I had forgotten that the roofers were scheduled to begin work on a new roof. As I hurriedly assembled my briefcase and lunch, all I could think to do was get out of the house. The relief from the clatter was palpable. It led me think about these things:
  • How noise seems to be everywhere in the environment from the grocery store to restaurants to elevators

  • How much I valued silence when I needed to think clearly

  • Where I could go when I was in need of quiet space

  • How not enough quiet makes me feel
This week, focus on the noise around you and notice how it makes you feel. Listen and observe. Write down what you notice and feel. Have you learned something new?

Share what you observe below.

Take good care,
