Love, Loss and Something Found

If you have lost someone important, you may already know about dealing with denial, sadness, depression, and anger. But later, as you move forward with healing, you may also find that even with the loss you have suffered, you have gained something unexpected. Consider the following scenario:

I lost both of my parents in my early to mid twenties. This double loss and becoming an orphaned young adult was the most significant thing that ever happened to me. Yet even with this profound loss, I have gained other things:
  • I realized at a young age, just how short a lifespan can be

  • I learned to not spend an undue amount of time staying angry, hurt or upset in relationships

  • How to help cousins and other family members with aging parents while never needing to deal with my own
This week, spend a few minutes considering what you have gained from significant loss. Write down what comes up for you. Share what you learn below.
