September is not just the traditional back to school month, but is also the beginning of autumn in North America. I personally like the beginning of autumn as a time for self-reflection. This month we will be exploring some ideas for deepening the process of internal reflection.
Here is a wonderful way to begin the process of self-reflection. Imagine it is twenty years (more or less) from now and you are looking back at your life. Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Close your eyes for a few minutes and think about what your life has been like over the years. For example, consider your:
- Health
- Relationships
- Professional work and career
- Spiritual life
- Travel
- Fun
- Finances
- Home
Now, take another few minutes and write down what you have imagined. Use this exercise to help you get grounded. By imagining the future, you will automatically be focused on how to best plan for today.
Try this exercise several times this week. Share your experience below.
