Last month I began the New Year with a discussion about clarifying goals by prioritizing what’s important and why. I want to take this a little bit further by suggesting a way to keep track of your progress in the ensuing months. One of the most reliable ways to stay connected to what's important is daily journaling.
This month, I am going to challenge you to develop this powerful habit. This week see how many days you can write for five minutes. Don’t think: just write. Here are some ideas on how to get started:
- Start with where you are (“I have nothing to say…” or “What should I write about?”)
- Keep moving your hand across the page or keep your fingers on the keyboard
- Set a kitchen timer or your phone for five minutes
- The most challenging part of this task is starting, not writing!
