The Magic of Want, Doing and Feeling

The other day I was in a bit of funk and remembered an old trick I’ve used to get focused. It involves three questions:
  • What do I want?
  • What am I doing?
  • What am I feeling?

Here’s how it works. Say aloud, say to yourself, or write down these three questions. Then proceed to answer each question in order. Do this quickly and without editing. Repeat this process until things come into focus. For example:

What do I want? To eat breakfast.
What am I doing? Writing.
What am I feeling? Hungry. 

Repeat until your next action becomes clear.
