The Courage to Create

Famed psychologist Rollo May’s classic book, The Courage to Create, reminds us that creative acts take courage. Why is this so? Because creativity means seeing something new in what is ordinary and familiar. For example:
  • Creating a piece of art from found objects

  • Embellishing an item of clothing or a pair of shoes

  • Using a recipe you have made for years and adding two new ingredients

  • Deciding to not buy, but make all gifts for others for one year

  • Painting a room a new color you have never used before
This week, find something outside your comfort zone that will challenge your creativity. Makes notes about what you chose, what you did, and how it felt to have the courage to create.
