The Paradox of Physical Activity

Does this scenario sound familiar to you? You are not a person who jumps out of bed in the morning, raring to get to the gym or get outdoors for a brisk walk. However, in spite of your reluctance to begin, you generally feel much better after you have engaged in some form of physical activity.

Positive psychology researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky, states that exercise helps improve self-esteem and a sense of mastery. Physical activity also increases flow and can serve as a positive distraction away from rumination and worry.

This week, see if you can increase your physical activity. Observe how you feel before you begin, versus after you finish exercising. What do you notice? Jot down some notes and share your awareness below.

Take good care!
