What are you grateful for?

Two weeks ago Americans celebrated Thanksgiving. Based originally on gratitude for abundant crops almost four hundred years ago, Thanksgiving remains a wonderful season to practice gratitude.

You may already be familiar with gratitude lists in which you write a daily or weekly list of things for which you are grateful.

I would like to propose a new twist to this exercise. When you write down what you are grateful for, add this additional piece…

• What part did you play in making this come about?

or

• How did your action influence this positive outcome?

For example, if I attend a conference or event and meet a new colleague or friend I like, I both showed up for the event and became engaged with my new friend. It wasn’t just luck, but my intention, subsequent action and involvement.

Try it and share your thoughts or questions with me or post your comment  below.

More next week,
