Focus on Someone Other than Yourself

When you are in the middle of an emergency situation, it is completely natural to think of yourself first. However, if at all possible, reach out to help someone else, too.
  • When you are able, extend a hand to someone in need. Just a small gesture will bring you an immediate sense of calm and “normalcy.”

  • You may want to express your anxiety or discomfort, which is also perfectly fine and normal, but not at the expense of someone else.

  •  Look for solutions to your situation. Try not to play the blame game. It will only make you and others around you feel worse.

  • Even in the middle of what may seem like total chaos, try to remain grateful for at least one thing in your life.
