The Paradox of Self-Care

When the unexpected happens, you might be especially prone to dump your healthiest habits. Paradoxically, of course, this is when you most need to take good care of yourself. If you find yourself in a topsy-turvy situation, consider these ideas:
  • Don’t expect to do everything perfectly! Instead go for doing the best you can.

  • Choose only one or two things to focus on. Stay on your diet, get your daily exercise, stick to your resolution to stop smoking, or meditate daily. But don’t try to do all of these things at once! Your will power muscle is already overly taxed.

  • Take a moment to set up some form of self-care in the very near future. Plan on taking a little time off, get a massage, get your nails done, or go to a movie. Knowing you have something to look forward to, even if it will be delayed, will greatly enhance your sense of well-being.
