When in Rome...

Perhaps you’ve heard the expression, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” I’ve been thinking about what that phrase means and it occurs to me that in a sense, it’s about mindfulness. In other words, when in Rome, notice what the Romans do. Here’s what I mean:
  • Are you present in the moment and aware of what is going on around you?
  • Are you present to yourself, your inner feelings, and thoughts?
  • Are you taking things in through your senses: smells, sounds, tastes, and what you see?
Whether you are in Rome, traveling elsewhere, or in your hometown, be present to what is going on around you, your thoughts and feelings, and taking in the world through your senses.

This week, try noticing a little more than usual. Make some notes on what you’ve found and share your thoughts below.

Take good care!
